ISTDAL: Abili commends Imo women, says their work in line with Gov Ihedioha vision

Cyriacus Nnaji:

Imo State Liaison Officer in Lagos, Hon Anthony Abili, has commended Imo State women, stating that their empowerment programmes are in line with those of the vision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, the Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

Abili made the disclosure at the Imo State Towns Development Association Lagos (ISTDAL), Women Wing’s August Meeting and Award Ceremony which took place at the Basket Ball Pitch, National Stadium, Lagos on Saturday.

“Imo State women in Lagos have started doing what Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is preaching. He said we should not always wait for government to bring development to us, some of us have the wherewithal to organize things for our own brothers and sisters, and so I feel highly elated that the Imo women here have taken the task to organise skill development programme and we at the liaison office are gonna give them all the support. We have actively supported them with two different progammes last month, and that was why we also said we would give them as much support as is required, to encourage them. I will also encourage our brothers and sisters, to do the same thing in our small communities. Those of us that have should begin to look inwards to assist in alleviating the condition of the have-not, that will make the environment conducive for further development to happen,” Abili stated.

Speaking on 100 days of Emeka Ihedioha in office, he said that the most important achievement of His Excellency is the transparency and the belief that now there is government in Imo State.

“The most important achievement of His Excellency is the transparency and the belief that now there is government in Imo State. Right Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has been able to settle this and bringing government to our people. One of his major watchwords is ensuring that there is the rule of law; he has made sure that the legislature is working, he has devolved all powers to the local governments, so that the local government can develop along the state.

“Importantly he has also made major investment towards providing security; a task force has been launched in Imo State and very shortly, there will be a trust fund that will be inaugurated in Imo State. You see business cannot happen if there is no transparency, if there is no security.”

He spoke on other achievements of the Governor within 100 days in office. “Just recently Imo State started what they have not done in eight years, the monthly environmental sanitation as it is done in Lagos because it is important, if you have a filthy environment, people will fall sick easily. Now that so many things have been done he is now encouraging our people to see how they can come home and support government to deliver dividends of democracy to the people”

He advised the Imo women in Lagos saying “I would advise them to continue and to build on what they have done, they shouldn’t relent, I believe it is just the beginning, I will encourage the women here to state focused, women is the future of the country because women are the builders of the family. Our women here are doing very well, and hopefully we will bring what His excellence is doing to the state.”

On plans to also meet with the men’s wing in Lagos, he said “We have already started meeting with people of Imo State both men and women, and we encourage our people that the liaison office is available at any point in time to give whatever support we can and we plan to reach out to all the town unions, almost 500 town unions here, out of these 500 we would try to reach out to as many as possible, to ensure dividends of democracy reach everybody,” Abili stated.

Earlier he had stressed the need to emancipate women when he said “I have always emphasized the need to continue to emancipate the women folk especially here in Lagos. I promise them support, I have promised them quarterly skill development for our women here in Lagos, such that our women in Lagos will not feel left out of the good benefits of the government of Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

He also thanked the Lagos State Government for recently allowing certain number of Imo women to join in skill development programme of the state.
