Success Damian:
Nigerian Association for Young Adults of Canada (NAYA), an
incorporated and registered organization with the Government of Canada, said it
has donated hospital equipments worth N1.324 billion to hospitals in Nigeria.
Shola Agboola, President of the group made the heart-warming
revelations during a press conference at Golden Tulip Hotel, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos
on Monday.
He stressed that all the materials which the group donates to
the Nigerian people are obtained free from the people and government of Canada.
Agboola stated that the only money which the group spends in
the entire exercise is in the cost of shipment and distribution of the
materials to the people in Nigeria.
“Coming Saturday we are going to launch medical equipment in
Bida, Niger State.”
Speaking on the nature of hospital equipment which the group
is donating to Nigerian hospitals, he said they include about seven sets of
highly sophisticated equipment which consist of hospital beds, incubators,
syringes, among others.
“In addition, over the course of six years, NAYA has made several millions of dollars worth of social interventions/investments in Nigeria.
"We also help in education, we donate laptops, computers in every state; we donate medical equipment, we donate books; we partner with Canada to obtain used books, we do empowerment in rural communities, free clothing, sometimes we go with hundreds of thousands, hygiene kits, we help in girl child poverty eradication,” Agboola said.

On the reason behind choosing Niger State for the launch of
the medical equipment, Agboola said the group is going to all the geopolitical
zones of the country because it is a non-sectional group, “we have been to Imo,
Osun, Abia and many other States of Nigeria.”
Working in partnership with Hope International as
intermediary, NAYA is able to get all the materials from the government of
Canada free, according to Agboola.
The group which is institutionally recognized for its
significant roles in fostering Nigerian interests both in Nigeria and the
Diaspora through Humanitarian services over the last decade, NAYA has made
significant social investments in many sectors such as Healthcare, Education,
and Empowerment, ICT Training, computer Funding and provision, Cultural
promotion /Exchange and Female Gender Development Initiatives.
The organization is also involved in giving out educational
materials, empowerment of people in rural communities, provision of hygiene
kits, girl child poverty eradication.
He called for attitudinal change and lamented the absence of
role models in Nigeria.
Agboola emphasized that there is little the individual can do
without government support.
He added that what the group is doing is a moral obligation
to give back to society “In Canada our children attain schools we could not
have imagined, created by people we don’t know, that is why we are doing what
we are doing. Nigeria must create an enabling environment. The problem with
Nigeria is a deliberate conspiracy of the elite to be selfish.”
He said Canada has
been able to create flourishing institutions as reason for their sustainable
development.
Agboola called on all and sundry to join hands to build the
nation. “Canada has actually changed our psyche. In Canada everything is not
left for government and that is key. I am using this opportunity to tell people
that we can do certain things by ourselves, when we do it we do it for
ourselves and our children.
“Now the question is, what is it that is in that country that
makes everybody that land there to fall in love with the country? It is not a
matter of talent, it is a matter of location, when they see your passion, they
allow you to grow,” Agboola added.
