Living up to his word to commence the unveiling of his election programmes this week, Governorship Candidate of National Conscience Party (NCP) in the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election in Edo State, Pastor Peters Omoragbo is set to end unemployment in the state
Omoragbon also stated that he will pay a living minimum wage to workers in Edo State if elected Governor.
In what he called Care Number One under his ‘10 Care Plus One Program, Omoragbon said that the rate of unemployment in Edo State is disturbing. “It cuts across all categories of school leavers including university graduates and professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyer, accountants, etc. Today, some of our best brains in various fields have been lost to foreign countries in what is generally known as brain-drain for lack of jobs and fulfillment. As Executive Governor of Edo State, I will solve the problem of brain-drain by creating a conducive social-economy environment for self-actualization and national service,” He said.
Omoragbon said there is nothing mythical about job creation, adding that Employment creation is a consequence of political, economic and social policies of the particular government in power. “Once conscious, serious, honest and well organized efforts are made to deal with the problems of food, agriculture, education, housing, health, transportation, energy, power &steel, electricity, communication & telecommunication, pipe-borne water, industrialization, etc., millions of jobs will be created automatically in the process.”
He added that there will be a major shift from contract system syndrome whereby public works and projects are given out to private firms, foreign and local, to a system that will utilize the capability of public sector workers in the execution of public works. “All agencies of government that are concerned with public works will be properly equipped and staffed.
“Under my watch, Edo State will not only create jobs, a living minimum wage will be introduced and it will rise periodically as inflation rises. Employment will not only be provided, there will be job security until retirement.
“The welfare interests of pensioners will be protected. Those who had served the state in their youthful and productive years would have no cause to regret old age under my government. Policies will be put in place to discourage arbitrary determination of appointment. Full trade union rights will be jealously protected,” Omoragbon stressed.
He said Corruption and inefficiencies hitherto associated with public enterprises will be discouraged by severe punishment.
“Corruption and inefficiencies hitherto associated with public
enterprises will be discouraged by severe punishment, by the power of example
of transparent, honest and disciplined life-style by my leadership at all
strata and levels in and out of government and democratic management and
control of the public concerns,” Omoragbo stated.
