Fire guts Ogoluwa Plank Market in Ifelodun LCDA, Lagos

It was a night of sorrow as fire descended on Ogoluwa Plank Market in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos, destroying goods and property worth millions.
The fire which occurred about 2 am on Wednesday raised the market with no item left.

A woman who simply gave her name as Iyaloja Ogoluwa, speaking on the cause of the fire incident said she could not ascertain the cause of the fire.

“I don’t Know what caused the fire because it happened in the night. They call me say fire is happening in our market, as I come I see fire I no no wetin causam.”

On how many people were affected by the fire she disclosed that everybody in the market was affected, “The fire touch everybody. I no fit count them.” She added that the area boys in the community were battling the fire before the arrival of firefighters.
She said the market leaders have informed the Ifelodun LCDA and the Chairman has paid a visit to the market on Wednesday so as to see what happened.

Yet a woman who craved anonymity said the fire was caused by a generator, saying “A man in one house near the market de on generator and he is using handset light and the gen catch fire, when it catch fire, he carry the gen and throw it over the fence and the fire enter the market, she narrated.

A visit to the market shows that the traders were making effort to put some structures back so that they could start trading again even as the Iyaloja disclosed that the government has not done anything for now and begged the authorities and public spirited individuals and organizations to come to the assistance of the traders in the market as the place is the only avenue to get their daily bread.
