Olumakaiye says Nigerian leaders should shun materialism

Success Damian:
Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos and Missioner, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Humphrey Olumakaiye has urged Nigerian leaders to shun materialism at all cost for the nation to attain greatness.

Olumakaiye express this view during the Prayer Walk of clergy and members of the Diocese of Lagos, Anglican Communion to the Centenary City, at Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

The prayer walk on the centenary city which is the permanent site for convention ground was with a view to taking possession of the convention centre.

While praying that the leaders get things right in the country, the bishop said that the only way this could be done in totality was for them to have the fear God, and realize that no one took anything from the world when they go back to their creator.

Speaking further he stated “We should not to be too attached to this world. Our leaders should become more prayerful, more spiritual, godlier, and also, live their faith; their faith should be their lifestyle because all the religions are preaching godliness and if we can abide with that spirit of godliness, we believe that things will be well, and we will get there; we will get to the Promised Land”.

Olumakaiye, while calling on those occupying various positions of leadership in the country to eschew materialism and spirit of selfishness, said they should move closer to God so that Nigeria can be the dream of every Nigerian and comfortably occupy its rightful position in the comity of nations.

He also congratulated Nigerians on the 59th anniversary of the country’s independence but however said, “We can agree that the country cannot be said to be stagnant since it got independence 59 years ago, though the level of progress could be considered to be slow.”
