Success Damian:

In a bid to ensure more global appeal, uniqueness and acceptability, Alaigbo International Cultural Festival would now be known and addressed as Ndigbo Worldwide Cultural Carnival.

Speaking through a press statement, Mrs Evelyn Okere Onyung, head of the Cultural Carnival, stated that apart from the change in name of the project, the vision and goal of the group remain sacrosanct.

Evelyn, who also disclosed that the decision for the change of nomenclature was reached after wide consultations and consensus by stakeholders, maintained that the cultural event has not in any way lost its nuances and target as was conceptualized and planned by the organizers.

The carnival with major objective of cultural integration and tool for peaceful co-existence; is billed to take place between December 30, 2021 and January 1, 2022 in Enugu State.

Evelyn revealed further that the major reason for the change in name is basically to differentiate the project from others whereby the word “Alaigbo”  has been over flogged, adding that there is need carve a name that is not just impactful, unique and fascinating but a name that has more global appeal.

Okere in her word averred “It is not the ground that does the culture, but the people. ‘Alaigbo’ is to say the land of the Igbo, so the new name still has the Igbo. Who are the Igbo? Igbo are the people with the culture, so we now decided to change Alaigbo International Cultural Festival to Ndigbo Worldwide Cultural Carnival to make it more impactful.”

She stated that changing the name Alaigbo has not in any way diminished or affected the nuances, the idea and objectives of the carnival.

The event which is designed to include all the seven states of the south eastern states, is envisaged as a huge cultural project to enable love and appreciation of its people and traditions, it is also conceptualised to build unity and oneness among all Igbo states with healthy competitions like wrestling, maiden pageant, masquerade competition, cultural dance competition, fashion runway show, among other enticing features.

The organizers also disclosed that there will be prizes to be won, and awards given to the best state team, while Distinguished Igbo son and daughter’s award will be given to all Igbo who have excelled in their various endeavours.
