In a press statement signed by the leadership
of the party that include Comrade Waheed Lawal, Acting National Chairman; Comrade
Adebola Lateef, National Secretary and Pastor Peters Omoragbon, National Deputy
Chairman (South-South), the NCP disclosed that the re-election of Governor
Sanwo-Olu did not come as a surprise. “The NCP is not surprised at your victory
at the end of the keenly contested election on March 18, 2023 because the
results of all your past governance in the last four years when you were sworn
in as governor has terminated all the insults by the opposition. From infrastructural
developments to the construction of the Lekki Seaport, modern railway lines,
roads and bridges are testaments of a tested and proven leader like your good-self.”
The party while calling Sanwo-Olu a Unifier appealed
to him to use his good office to heal the wounds deliberately created by
certain elements within the state to create undue crisis. “It is in the light
of the above that the NCP would admonish that in your usual characteristics as
a Unifier, to heal the wounds deliberately created by certain elements within
the state to create undue crisis using ethnic and religious sentiments in a cosmopolitan,
multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious state like Lagos.”
According to the release, the party maintained
that aside campaigning assiduously for the progressive governors like
Sanwo-Olu, the party would not hesitate to support the administration in Lagos in
whatever capacity if called upon to do so. “The NCP in line with the directives
given at the end of the NEC/NCC Meeting held on February 22, 2023 where His
Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was endorsed as our Presidential
Candidate, the party further directed that each state Chapter endorse and
support progressive governors in their various states irrespective of party
affiliations. We in the NCP worked assiduously by campaigning for your eventual
victory and others in the federation. The Party remains committed to a united
Lagos State and Nigeria
“The party would not hesitate to support your
Excellency in whatever capacity if called upon to offer such support for the
good of the people of Lagos.”
