Fagbohun harps on inclusiveness, others as keys to his administration's success

Success Damian:

Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, has hinged the success of his administration on adherence to the 5-pronged principles of all-inclusiveness, discipline, welfare, rule of law and quality assurance.

Fagbohun made this revelation on Thursday while advising a high-powered delegation from the newly-established Lagos State  Cooperative College, led by the Council Chairman,  Mr. Oyebowale Raji, who had led  members of the institution's Council and Management team on a working visit to him (Vice Chancellor) and his team.

Raji, in company with the institution's provost, Ojomu Akorede, members of the Council and Management were at the Vice Chancellor's Office to seek the wisdom and guidance of their counterpart in the Lagos State University to help in charting a sustainable path of lasting development for LASCOC.

Fagbohun stated "There are five things you must get right from the beginning as you manage the affairs of this institution. First is inclusiveness. Run an all-inclusive system, where everyone is carried along. Yes you will have mischief makers, dissidents who know how to poison the system. But when there is an inclusive system, information flows and everyone is aware of the truth. And what can run an inclusive governance is committee system.”

He spoke further, "Discipline is the second imperative. Where there is discipline, there is order. Whenever the law is flouted, respectably apply the law without favourtistm. Don't joke with discipline. We have joked with it in the past and have suffered for it.

"Side by side with discipline is welfare. Don't joke with people's welfare. Don't let people ask for their right before you give them. If you don't give people their right, you can't enforce discipline.

"Added to that is rule of law and due process. Don't ever be in a rush to do anything. You must follow the law even when emotions are running high.

"Lastly, don't joke with quality assurance. We have a quality assurance directorate and we don't joke with it. They quality assure all out processes", he said after a series of discussions,” Fagbohun disclosed.

The professor of Environmental Law also tasked the Council Chairman and Provost on engaging in robust engagements during decision-making. "A Vice Chancellor or Provost who thinks he knows it all is doomed to fail. Governance will collapse the day you think you know it all. That is why we give room for robust discussions in our Management and Senate," he said.

Earlier, head of the delegation, Mr. Raji while explaining their mission, thanked the Vice Chancellor for releasing Prof. Oguntola-Laguda to serve on their Council, and sought for answers to their questions: "Our mission is to interact with your management as mentioned in our request to visit as you deem fit so that our own team can ask pertinent questions to help settle them down in their respective roles as administrators in the College environment."

The Lagos State Cooperative College was created under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Lagos State Government in 2012 and became a legal entity through enabling Act in 2018. The Governing Council of the College was inaugurated in June, 2020 by the State Government.
