Abdul - Rahman Agoro emerges 33rd LASUSU President as he beats 4 other contestants …As stakeholders say election credible, free, fair

Lagos State University Students' Union has a new President and the new helmsman is a 300 Level student, Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University. 

Abdul - Rahman Agoro polled *3,410 votes*, beating Four other contestants, Ayoola Sadiku, 2,406 votes, Taiwo Akinyemi, 1,116 votes, Kehinde Sonayon 607 votes and Uzamah Musbaudeen, 292 votes. 

The elections were held across Main Campus, Ojo, Ikeja and Epe on Tuesdaty, 7th February 2023. The accreditation of Voters took place simultaneously at the Faculties/School/College.

In the history of the elections, it was the first time the LASUSU elections had about Eight Thousand (8,000) students, voting across the three Campuses.

The elections started at about 11.00 a.m and ended at about 4.00 p.m, the results were announced immediately at the results collation Centre, University ICT Centre, near the Students' Affairs Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos. 

At the situation room, the results were conspicuously displayed on a large screen, while voting was done electronically. 

The members of the Lagos State University Students' Union Independent Electoral Committee (LASUSU-IEC) were on hand for accreditation of the students' voters and generated the voting token, once they provided their Matriculation numbers, then, they proceeded to vote at the accreditation centres.

At the Centres visited, the elections were peaceful, according to the students talked to, describing the process, seamless, free and fair.

At the results collation Centre, the students, in their hundreds waited patiently outside for the announcement and when the results were finally released, it was wild jubilation. 

The new LASUSU President was carried shoulder high and thrown up, many times, to show their joy as well as acceptability.

Meanwhile, the Director, Directorate of Information, Communications and Technology (DICT), Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, whose office played a key role, with the deployment of technical assistance and technology, in an interview with CIPPR, was satisfied with the conduct of the elections, as well as, the members of the LASUSUIEC, that conducted the elections. He gave kudos to the electorates for their conduct and composure throughout. Finally, he thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji - Bello, mni, for providing the enabling environment.

The Director, Interventions, Lagos State University, Dr. Oseni Taiwo Afisi, described the Elections as credible, free and fair. He called on other institutions and organisations to take a cue from the success of the LASUSU elections. 

An electoral observer who is also a Lecturer at the School of Transport and Logistics, Dr. Joel Asaju at the Faculty of Arts, where he observed noted that the elections went well and the students voted in an orderly manner. He commended all that contributed to the success of the 2023 LASUSU General Elections.
