Matthias Onyeje, the National Publicity Secretary of Ideato Committee of
Friends of Nigeria (ICFN) has dismissed the propaganda that His Excellency, the
Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma came to power to implement RUGA in
the state.
Onyeje a diehard APC
stakeholder was part of the national team of ICFN that came from the national
office in Port Harcourt to conduct an election into the new ICFN Lagos Branch
executive at Bike Event Centre, Agor Palaceway Lagos on Sunday.
“Our Governor, the Most
Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not in government
to implement RUGA, he has come to give good governance to Imo State,” Onyeje
said.
Speaking on the question
whether peace has returned to Imo State Ochiwar, as he is popularly known, he
said “Forget the social media reports, there is peace in Imo State, in fact Imo
State is enjoying very peaceful atmosphere, it remains one of the most peaceful
states in Nigeria. I am not mincing words, the governor of the state, the most
distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma
so far, I believe, has proven to be a leader; Imo is in a safe hand,” Onyeje
said.
On the fear by many that the
Governor was brought to power to do the bidding of some unseen hands and to
ensure that RUGA is brought to the state especially given the unrest at Okigwe
where many people were reportedly killed, he said “Forget the media hype, it
was done by PDP members, as I speak to you now, during the reign of Emeka
Ihedioha, the same Hausa community visited him, they presented him with a white
horse. Now his tenure has elapsed, the new regime of the Hausa Community headed
by an Mbaise man, they paid the governor a courtesy call, it was from that
visit that the PDP began disseminating rumours that Uzodinma has bargained with
Northerners to give them Emir, which is very very wrong.
“Go to your archives, you will
find that when Northerners visited Ihedioha about 5-6 months ago, they visited
him with a white horse which they gave to him as present, Now the haters of the
state are criticizing the governor. I want you to disregard that rumour, if you
are in doubt of what I am saying, go to Net, you will see the visit of Hausa
community during the time of Ihedioha.”
Onyeje speaking on the desires
of Imolites said “Imo people want good governance from Hope Uzodinma, which he
has sworn and pledged and he has also promised to give good governance to the
state. And this is a man that stands by his words, believe you me, in the next
12 months from now Imo will have a new leaf and those things he promised during
his campaign era, I want to tell you that he will fulfill those things. So far,
he has been doing good, doing tremendously well in the state, so I want to
assure all Imolites to be calm and watch out how the governor is going to
develop the state, nobody should be afraid of anything.”
Atunweonweya 1 of Osina, on
his impression about the election that was conducted in ICFN, he said “Actually I was here sometime last year
during the inauguration of the Lagos branch, and to be sincere with you, I am
highly impressed because the men I met here are men of proven integrity, I am
happy with the branch, they are progressing, but they need to do more work to
bring more members, more sons of Ideato people into the club. But so far the
leadership of Ide Chief Ernest Eze (Orabugwueze) I want to commend him for all
his efforts, and also commend members, for the maximum support they are giving
to him all this while. I am happy, I am highly impressed.”
On his advice he said “My
advice to the newly elected people, already some of them were in the interim
government, I want to advise them to add more efforts, because Lagos is our
latest baby and we are interested in the growth and development of the branch.
So I want to advise them to inculcate discipline into the club and be their
brother’s keeper, and also we know that people are numerous in Lagos State they
should throw their dragnets to other areas to fish for our people, we have many
men here in Lagos, men of proven integrity and caliber, so the executive should
scout for members to come in and join hand to develop our ideato nation.
He thanked Lagos this way “I
and my team from Port Harcourt are happy for the reception given to us, we say
thank you Lagos branch.”
